Talcum powder is the main ingredient in many cosmetic products such as baby powder, blush, eyeshadow, foundation, and face powder. It’s popularity is due to the fact that it can absorb moisture and reduce friction to dry skin and prevent rashes. The safety of this seemingly harmless product, however, has come under question. In as early as the 1970's talcum powder was linked to an increased risk in ovarian cancer. Though most recent studies have come up inconclusive there has still been many cases where Johnson & Johnson was put to trial for the possible contribution of talcum powder in ovarian cancer. Though there is very little evidence linking the popular product this would not be the first occasion a Johnson & Johnson product proved to be defective, and for that reason the Eshelman Legal Group wants to unveil the truth behind talcum powder.

Talcum powder is a product of talc, which is currently the softest mineral on Earth. The original cause of cancer from talcum powder was contamination from a similar mineral called asbestos which can cause cancer when inhaled. Despite asbestos being removed from commercial products that does not mean that it is no longer harmful. There has been some cases where it has been shown that women who use talcum powder in the genital area have an increased risk for ovarian cancer. Many companies chose to substitute corn starch in their cosmetic products but despite the possible risks some companies still choose to use talc in their products.

Johnson & Johnson is one of these companies that still uses talcum powder in their products. Despite all of the controversy behind talc they have been marketing their products towards women, saying that the product is completely safe. Again this is not the first time Johnson & Johnson has sold possibly dangerous products to the masses under the pretense that they can not do any real harm. If you or any of your loved ones suffer from ovarian cancer due to a product that uses talcum powder, please be sure to contact the Eshelman Legal Group to make sure that you receive the justice that you deserve.
